EXAMPLE ARTWORK

IMG_3069_edited.jpg

Harold Washington Library, Chicago, IL. An example of two point perspective.

This lesson is part of the Painting Unit that precedes the Landscape Painting Lesson. It will be presented as a mini lesson to introduce the students to a refresher of knowledge on linear perspective and space. Students will observe and discuss visual artworks that show a variety of spatial features including interior, exterior, landscape, and architecture.

Most students have prior knowledge of linear perspective from elementary art. Some students show greater recall of 1 or 2 point perspective methods from Art I Foundations. Students are prompted to create an architectural or landscape drawing using linear perspective to honor a “place” in their community. This might be a favorite place, a place where they have experienced joyful memories, or even a historical place.
